Take Her or "Leaf" Her

A neighborly story...

We hadn't lived in our house long when Brylee was born. One afternoon "Miss Sue" came by to see if we had dinner plans, though we hardly knew them at the time. We got talking and she asked that question on that day. "How are you doing?" Call it a rough day, post-baby hormones, or a lack of sleep, I just started crying. Our relationship was just starting and there I was unable to stop crying. BUT, for some reason it felt ok with her. She quickly assured me that she understands and remembers being in my shoes. And then she said something that blew me away. "Kendra, you are not raising your kids on your own. You aren't alone. We are right here and we are here to help. You can send them over to our house if you need a break. Text me if I need to come over. Whatever. We are here and want to help."

THAT is what community looks like. It is a beautiful thing. I am so blessed because of it. I can only hope to be that "somebody" in someone else's life.

I know Sue doesn't regret that offer, but I sure have taken her up on her offer. She's SO gracious to watch the girls while I run an errand or to the doctor with one of them. Sit at our house while they nap. Take Addison to the park. Bring her to her house and give her lunch while I pack for a trip. And SO much more. Addison loves Miss Sue. We all do. We love their whole family.

One morning when I was not feeling well, she entertained Addison with a pile of leaves and took some sweet pictures in the process.

"Miss Sue" (and family) - thank you for being you. For living where you live. For inviting us in. For loving on our girls. For loving on us. For being an answer to unspoken prayer.
